About Party:
Socialist Party (India) is an effort towards the revival of socialism in India. It has its roots in the Congress Socialist Party (founded in 1934 as part of the Indian National Congress).
The party was formed after a long period of advocacy and organising by Panna Laal Surana and Surendra Mohan. Several socialist groups and individuals met in a two-day foundation conference held in Hyderabad on 28-29 May, 2011 where the Socialist Party (India) was constituted. Around 600 delegates from 19 states attended the conference.
The party aims to promote socialism in the form of the decentralization of economic activity and the development of small scale industries, and to launch peaceful struggles against anti-people activities of the ruling classes and the State.
It also strives to bring about a social and cultural revolution to end patriarchy and Brahmanism, so that marginalised sections of society can effectively influence political decision-making. The party will also participate in parliamentary elections to stabilize the gains of the movement.
