Subject: Biennial Elections to Legislative Councils of Maharashtra from Local Authorities’ Constituencies.

The term of office of 8 (eight) members of Maharashtra Legislative Councils from Local Authorities Constituencies is also due to expire on 1st January, 2016 on the retirement of the sitting members as detailed below:

The Commission has decided to hold Biennial Elections from the above mentioned Local Authorities’ Constituencies of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana Legislative Councils in accordance with the following Schedule:

7. Date before which election shall be completed 1st January, 2016 (Friday)
The term of office of the members to be elected to the above Legislative Councils from Local Authorities’ Constituencies will be subject to the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in SLP(c) No. 17123/15 (Election Commission of India Vs Devesh Chandra Thakur & Others).
The Model Code of Conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the district(s) in which the above Constituencies are comprised. In addition, the ECI instructions relating to defacement of Public & Private properties shall also be applicable. A detailed instruction with regard to applicable provisions of Model Code of Conduct for this election is being issued separately
